J. Matthew Born, CEM CEA, is vice president of contractor sales – central region at Earthwise Environmental Inc., Bensenville, Ill. Born works with engineering firms and contractors to develop and meet hydronics specifications.

He is an Association of Energy Engineers Certified Energy Manager and Certified Energy Auditor. With more than three decades in manufacturing, technical operations and sales, Born is well-versed in large-scale operation water treatment needs.

Prior experience includes as a plan/specification engineer at H-O-H Chemicals Inc., where Born specialized in hydronics project system equipment including reverse osmosis; water softeners; purified water skids; steam, chilled and hot water loops; condenser systems; and ground/air source heat pump loops. He also worked nearly 20 years in Illinois State University operations, ultimately serving as chief plant operating engineer. Born received the Illinois State University TEAM EXCELLENCE Award from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Community Affairs in 2001.

He attended Illinois State University and, in addition to CEM and CEA designations, received his master operator/master programmer certification through Landis and Gyr (Siemens Building Technologies). Born is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Association of Energy Engineers, and member and past president of the Association of Professional Energy Consultants. A U.S. Navy machinists mate veteran, he is a member of the American Legion and the 40/8 Veteran's Society. Born lives in Saybrook, Ill.
